Thanks for signing up!
Hello Collaborators!
Whether you’ve collaborated with us before or are joining us for the first time, we are so excited to welcome you to the Math Routine Collaborative!
When and how do we meet?
We will meet every third Sunday at 4:00 ET and end around 5:15 p.m. ET. We are using Zoom as our meeting platform. We will send two reminders, one the week before our session and then again the day of our session.
Who is a part of the Math Routine Collaborative?
Anyone who is a math educator, thinking about being a math educator, and most importantly, interested in a world where students believe they can be capable mathematicians. Hosted by Annie Fetter, Ralph Pantozzi, and Shelby Strong, we will have guest facilitators and breakout rooms so you have a chance to practice our routine of the week and meet other members of the collaborative.
What are the goals & expectations of the Math Routine Collaborative?
Here’s how we envision this going: Sessions will be on Zoom for about an hour and 15 minutes. We’ll do a brief intro of what we’re doing and our guest(s) for the day, and then that person (or people) will lead that week’s routine. Afterwards, collaborators will get to pick the brain of the facilitator (Why did you ask this question? How did you decide what to annotate? Why did you pick this problem?) After this, collaborators will have the opportunity to practice facilitating the routine in small groups if they want. Finally, we’ll come back together for one last debrief so folks can share any noticings or wonderings they still have.
That being said, this is the Math Routine Collaborative – if this plan isn’t working, we are open to changing it! We want this time and space to be meaningful for folks who are taking time out of their summer to be a part of this community. All of our resources will be housed in a Google Drive folder that we will share with participants each week.
Why come to the Math Routine Collaborative?
- To participate in math routines and ask fellow educators questions about their strategies
- To learn new math routines and revisit old ones, and practice them with other educators
- To have fun with math!
FAQ
Do I have to attend every session?
While we’d absolutely love to see you every month, we know that real life is also happening. Feel free to join us when you can!
Will sessions be recorded?
We are hoping to hold space for rich conversations. People might ask questions or take risks in trying something new! Because we want everyone to feel safe to ask those questions or take those risks, we have decided not to record the sessions. However, we’ve got something in the works, so stay tuned!
I can’t join you at 4:00 ET or on Sundays, can you change the day/time?
We went back and forth a lot about this. Unfortunately, it’s really hard to schedule these sorts of things at a time that isn’t too late for East Coast friends, or too early for West Coast friends, not to mention our international friends. If we could build a time machine, we totally would!
Can I receive PD credit for attending?
We know this collaborative is serving as great professional development for us all! However, formalizing attendance, sign-in, and giving certificates of completion are beyond what we are able to provide.
I know someone who would love this! Can they come?
YES! If you have friends or colleagues who would like to join us, feel free to send them to StrongerMath.com/MRC to register.
